Points and Badges

You may have noticed a small list near the top of the home page entitled "Top Contributors" with some names, numbers and badges as well as a page of users and their points. These are 2 new features we're trying out.

Points:
Points are our way of rewarding you for participating and contributing to this community. You can earn points by...

• Commenting on blog posts
• Posting to the forums
• Inviting new members to the site
• Participating on the site in various other ways

Badges:
Awarded for...

• Reaching certain levels of points
• Signing up for certain events

You can see what the badges represent by hovering your cursor over each one. Most badges are assigned automatically by the site but the "Attending!" badge (the shamrock) is assigned by us manually once you've signed up for The Main Event - so it may take a while to show up.

What does it all add up to? Besides fame and glory, we're thinking about offering a small prize at the tweetup for the non-organizer person who's racked up the most points. Will it be you?

We reserve the right to take away points for spammy comments that are obviously intended only for the purpose of point-farming.
