IMPORTANT - MORE ROOMS OPENING UP @ the Holiday Inn
FYI, I called Diane Fuentes, our sales rep at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, and she is going to arrange to have 10 more rooms added to the Chicago(ish) Tweetup block (that's the reference code for the block when you call). They will add more rooms after that as more people reserve rooms.
If you call a couple of weeks from now and reservations says the block is full, please get in touch with Diane Fuentes 312.529.1115 and ask her to open up more rooms.
The longer people wait, the harder it may become to open up more rooms, so if you know you're attending, call sooner rather than later. The $129 Chicago(ish) Tweetup group rate expires MARCH 10th. Thanks!

That's great news for perennial procrastinators like me!
I just called to reserve a room with the CHSH block and it is full....left a message for Diane Fuentes.....*fingers crossed*..
They should be opening them up either today or tomorrow. Diane is great about returning calls, so if you don't have any luck with reservations tomorrow, hopefully she can help you. Please let us know if you're not getting a response on this and we'll try to help, too.
Just tried booking -- no dice on the rate, but non CHSH rate is $162. Was told could book now, and call back to convert to other rate if more rooms open up. Not recommending, just passing on what I was told.
The sales rep said she'd call reservations to open up more rooms in the block at the group rate today. It could be that there's some lag time between her request, it could be she forgot, etc. Hopefully the rooms will be there tomorrow. If they're not, please let me know and I'll call her again.

I called the Holiday Inn today and here is what I found: when I spoke with the general reservation desk, a man said that there were no longer any rooms available in the CHSH block of rooms. When I said that I thought more rooms were being added to the block today or tomorrow, he referred me to a Shaunita Mayberry. She was able to make a reservation at the group rate without any trouble.
I'd suggest if you still have trouble, maybe ask for her name.

Thanks for the update, Laura. I'm glad you were able to get a room! Sometimes people are shunted to a reservation hub that's not even Chicago-based, so calling the hotel directly to ask about block rate issues during regular business hours (9-5 Central time) is your best bet until we're certain the additional rooms have been added.
I was able to get the CHSH rate after all -- yay!
Marcmack, when did you call, and when you did, were they still telling you the block of rooms is closed? If it was today, I'll call the sales rep to confirm that they have--or will be very soon--opened up more rooms. Thanks, and I'm glad you got the group rate!
I actually got confirmation on the improved rate yesterday around noon. I did talk to Diane today, though, about a separate issue and I got the impression that they may be opening more still (I could be mistaken)!, but that the hotel was filling up.
Just booked mine 5 minutes ago and got the group rate with no issues.
It was pretty awesome to hear the old guy in reservations say "Chicago-wish Tweee-tup".
I made my res this morning but was told there were no more rooms available at the special rate. I left a message for Diane with my confirmation number and phone number to see if she could hook a sister up.
FYI - Just booked an extra room at Holiday Inn for my son and it was $87/night using the AAA rate for Fri/Sat night.
